What changed in WoW Forever?

Deep Wounds is again required before Impale in the Arms tree. Blizzard fixed unintended scaling of Deep Wounds from offhand attack power and notes that the damage-over-time effect behaves as a rolling effect in Forever rather than matching the old Vanilla model exactly.

How the change affects players

Build links created during earlier beta configurations can become invalid after a prerequisite change. A rolling bleed also makes repeated triggers more complicated than treating each bleed as an independent static effect. A correct level-specific talent map is more useful than copying a future capstone image.

The active beta is capped at level 30. Class tests at that level do not settle a future level-60 raid or battleground ranking. Record your talent ranks, equipment, enemy level, encounter length and the build date. Only compare combinations that you can actually use.

A practical way to respond

Open the updated Arms tree and check the exact prerequisite before assigning Impale. Compare two reachable builds at the same level, keeping weapon configuration constant. Watch a normal combat window if you are testing bleed behavior, and note where the offhand scaling assumption no longer fits.

Things to avoid

Do not present a level-60 Impale path as immediately available in a level-30 beta. Requirements matter more than an idealized final damage table.

Verification table

Use these five checks while playing. Each one helps prevent an outdated beta observation from becoming a misleading universal recommendation.

CheckWhat to verify
Deep Wounds prerequisiteFind the corresponding live tooltip, interface setting or activity before relying on an old screenshot.
Impale eligibilityWrite down the value you observe and the exact level, rank or account eligibility that makes it relevant.
Rolling bleedCompare the measured result with your original plan, including any resource or travel costs.
Offhand fixConfirm whether the observation changes the outcome you care about instead of optimizing an unrelated number.
Current point capRepeat the comparison after the next beta patch and update your shared notes if the result changes.

Frequently asked question

Can Impale be unlocked without Deep Wounds in this build?

No. Blizzard restored Deep Wounds as a required path to Impale.

When should I revisit this guide?

Recheck after major beta patches, a level-cap increase or the launch build. The result can change without the central topic becoming irrelevant. Keep the specific observation that informed your decision so future changes are easy to audit.

Plan your next step

You can apply this information using Talent Calculator and Community Builds. Save your configuration and confirm prerequisites before following advice from a different client version.

An in-game scenario

Consider a Warrior saving an Arms build link from an earlier beta version. The link might contain a path to Impale that current prerequisites reject. The player should rebuild the tree from the present game's lower rows upward, confirming Deep Wounds before allocating to Impale. A saved screenshot can serve as historical context, but not as proof of a valid current setup. This is precisely where an interactive calculator with prerequisite enforcement prevents frustration.

Decision points and trade-offs

For damage testing, a rolling bleed means the accumulated effect and refresh timing deserve attention. Two weapons with different attack patterns may lead to different observed uptime even when the nominal tooltip looks similar. Avoid attributing an old offhand scaling bug to intentional design. Compare multiple combat windows and record weapon choice, level and talent points. A short explanation of those conditions is more valuable than a sensational absolute DPS claim.

Does a prerequisite change delete existing talent points?

The important effect is that a newly planned allocation must meet the restored requirement. Check how the game handles your existing beta build and respec it if necessary.
