GUIDE

Forever Affliction Warlock Drain Tanking at Level 30

Affliction Warlock in Forever combines damage-over-time spells with Drain Life and Life Tap, making a sustainable route possible when a conventional wand-only caster would need frequent breaks.

WoW Forever beta note: This guide is based on the Forever client and published October 2026 references. It does not assume Retail or Season of Discovery mechanics without version confirmation.

The core mechanic

Start with your damage-over-time effects because they need time to tick. Wowhead's level-30 beta guidance uses Corruption and Bane of Agony before filling with Drain Life. If you have a Succubus available, her damage can shorten fights, but she may not hold threat. Expect enemies to reach you and make sure your health-to-mana loop actually recovers more than it costs.

How to use it during real play

Life Tap converts health to mana; Drain Life recovers health while doing damage. Treat the pair as a measured loop, not a command to tap at dangerously low health. Against targets about to die, avoid starting an expensive full channel when a wand can finish them. Learn when to end combat with enough resources for the next pull.

Mistakes and changing beta behavior

Fear makes multi-target pulling possible, but fleeing enemies can reach additional packs. Before using it, examine nearby patrol paths. If the target heads toward danger, use a safe alternative or break off the attempt. A two-enemy drain-tanking route is only efficient when the second enemy's positioning remains controlled.

Practical setup and test plan

Check that the skills and talents are available in the current beta tree. Improved Corruption, Improved Drains and Improved Life Tap were highlighted in the October level-30 reference; their costs or ranks can change. Compare a ten-enemy loop by time, deaths and recovery, not by largest drain tick.

Repeatable beta testing checklist

  1. Check your current level, relevant talent ranks and ability tooltips.
  2. Test your normal gameplay against comparable opponents, not one cherry-picked critical hit.
  3. Record travel, mana, health or combat-resource recovery alongside encounter duration.
  4. Revisit the setup after an official tuning patch and update the build date.

Use the Talent Calculator for available points, the Community Builds section for sharing your setup, and LFG if your experiment requires a party.

FAQ

Can I drain tank with no risk?

No; damage spikes and unsafe Fear routes can still kill you.

Should I always use Succubus?

Compare its damage against Voidwalker safety for your current gear and opponents.
