GUIDE

WoW Forever Hunter Pet Critical Strike Inheritance Explained

October beta updates adjusted how Hunter pets inherit critical-strike chance. A separate interface bug means some players may see an unchanged pet character-sheet percentage even when an ability works differently in combat.

WoW Forever beta note: This guide is based on the Forever client and published October 2026 references. It does not assume Retail or Season of Discovery mechanics without version confirmation.

The core mechanic

The official developer notes say pet critical inheritance uses the higher of the owner's melee or ranged critical-strike chances. Before reporting a mismatch, record the Hunter's two values and the current beta build. A pet's visible stat panel may not reflect every active effect; Blizzard has described a specific Ferocity display issue.

How to use it during real play

Testing requires enough attacks to reduce noise. Observe multiple comparable fights with one pet, one target type and consistent buffs. A short sequence with zero critical hits does not prove the inheritance is broken. Record whether the pet actually uses an ability with its own critical-strike rule and distinguish that from ordinary attacks.

Mistakes and changing beta behavior

Pet-family talents and skill tuning changed during October, including Crocolisk Dismember, Bat Sonic Blast and Bird of Prey Mine!. Do not treat a change in overall damage as proof of a critical inheritance bug. If the family action changes as well as crit chance, isolate each factor before measuring.

Practical setup and test plan

When writing a bug report, include the pet family, Hunter level, gear and relevant aura buffs, ability tested, count of trials and actual result. Avoid claiming a final coefficient unless it is explicitly documented for Forever.

Repeatable beta testing checklist

  1. Check your current level, relevant talent ranks and ability tooltips.
  2. Test your normal gameplay against comparable opponents, not one cherry-picked critical hit.
  3. Record travel, mana, health or combat-resource recovery alongside encounter duration.
  4. Revisit the setup after an official tuning patch and update the build date.

Use the Talent Calculator for available points, the Community Builds section for sharing your setup, and LFG if your experiment requires a party.
