GUIDE

WoW Forever Restoration Shaman Level 30: Heals and Totems

A level-30 Restoration Shaman is an effective support healer, but the best dungeon setup is not simply placing every available totem. Forever's October updates changed buff compatibility, and early Restoration requires deliberate mana management.

Beta context: Tested guidance applies to WoW Forever around the level-30 beta cap and the October 16 development state. Review the in-game tooltip after every beta update; do not treat it as a final level-60 ranking.

When to choose Restoration

If you mostly level alone, a damage-oriented setup will usually produce a smoother quest loop; Restoration becomes more valuable when groups consistently need healing. At this beta cap, it is normal to split time between supporting the party and contributing simple damage during safe periods. Do not claim access to maximum-level Riptide or talent layouts without checking the current client.

Make your healing decisions in advance

Use Healing Wave for predictable tank damage when you have time to cast. During quieter pulls, recover mana and contribute with melee or low-risk offensive actions rather than spending the same healing spell on targets missing a trivial amount of health. If multiple enemies are present and healing needs are controlled, Fire Nova can help the group clear trash, but only after you have reserved mana to keep the tank alive.

Totem compatibility after October changes

The current development notes revise combinations involving Windfury Totem, Flametongue Totem, Grace of Air Totem and Tranquil Air. Multiple shamans cannot simply stack all those benefits by assigning a different totem to each player. Agree on one primary group benefit, inspect its tooltip and verify whether another buff is replaced. A guide recommending all totems simultaneously without discussing exclusions is outdated.

Mana-management talent check

Wowhead's level-30 Restoration guide emphasizes early Mindfulness and Water Shield for mana sustain. Compare them with the points you could instead invest in damage for solo leveling. Record a dungeon with a consistent group and count deaths, drinks and time to finish, not simply your healing meter total.

Practical checklist

  1. Check the current build and the exact level of your character.
  2. Use the Talent Calculator to compare available points and prerequisites.
  3. Test one change at a time and record a repeatable outcome.
  4. Review the latest Forever news before relying on a pre-patch guide.
  5. If grouping is relevant, agree on roles and test with the same party composition.

Frequently asked questions

Should Restoration level solo from level one?

It can, but it is mainly rewarding in a regular group and may have slow solo kills.

Can I stack every air totem?

No; the October beta rules explicitly restrict several combinations.
