Last reviewed: October 9, 2026. Forever expands the familiar Classic race-class combinations. Players returning from Vanilla should avoid assuming their remembered matrix is complete.
What matters for this topic
Among announced new pairings are Human Hunter, Gnome Priest, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. Always confirm the current beta options before character creation.
The playable faction and class matrix should be checked before character creation. A useful racial is one that contributes to the content your character will play.
Practical steps
Use the following short plan as a starting point, then adjust it for your character, group and the current test build. A good decision should be repeatable and easy to review when the next update changes the rules.
- Choose your desired role and class first.
- Compare eligible races across factions.
- Consider the location of your preferred group.
- Check racial abilities in the same decision.
What can go wrong?
Avoid choosing a race for an obsolete racial tooltip or a class combination the current client does not offer. After a patch, confirm information in the client instead of reusing a screenshot or price estimate from an earlier test.
Frequently asked question
Is one racial always the strongest?
No. Value changes between leveling, raids, solo farming and battlegrounds; faction access can be more important than a small combat bonus.
