GUIDE

WoW Forever Rockbiter vs Windfury Weapon for Shaman Leveling

Rockbiter Weapon and Windfury Weapon solve different early Shaman problems in Forever. A fixed 'always use Windfury' answer overlooks level access, weapon quality, mana use and whether the player is tanking or dealing damage.

Beta scope: These are Forever-specific rules and examples available by October 16, 2026. Exact damage values and availability may change with later builds. This is not a Retail or Season of Discovery guide.

What changed in Forever

Rockbiter provides straightforward Attack Power and is part of the easy early Enhancement leveling pattern described by the Forever guide. It benefits players who want consistent auto-attacks with limited mana spending. For a solo player with a poor weapon, upgrading equipment may improve performance more than swapping between enhancement spells repeatedly.

Apply it during normal play

Windfury Weapon becomes available later and offers a different damage pattern. At level 30, its usefulness should be tested in complete fights, not inferred from the largest additional hit. Count how often the effect contributes meaningful damage before the enemy dies and how the rest of your spell sequence changes.

Important restrictions and mistakes

Group roles matter. A Shaman providing support via totems must consider weapon-enchantment compatibility and the October revisions that block certain Flametongue, Windfury and Grace of Air stacks. An effect that appears in your personal tooltip may replace another group benefit. Coordinate the setup before a dungeon run.

Build or route testing

To compare fairly, fight similar enemies with the same weapon, talents, party buffs and duration. Measure total damage, time per kill and time spent recovering. Keep an eye on threat when playing with a tank; more damage is not necessarily more useful if it destabilizes a difficult pull.

A reliable test procedure

  1. Confirm the client build, class level and current talent prerequisites.
  2. Use the same or similar enemies to compare one change without hidden gear differences.
  3. Include recovery and travel time instead of counting only burst damage.
  4. Document uncertain interactions and retest after Blizzard beta notes change them.
