At level 30 a Warlock can choose between the security of Voidwalker threat and the offensive pressure of a Succubus, depending on how much punishment the player can absorb.
WoW Forever beta note: This guide is based on the Forever client and published October 2026 references. It does not assume Retail or Season of Discovery mechanics without version confirmation.
The core mechanic
Voidwalker is a reasonable choice if enemies hit hard, you are undergeared or you need a threat buffer to finish casts safely. Watch whether it actually maintains aggro; a pet merely standing in front of the mob does not guarantee every enemy will stay on it. Feed, manage and reposition your pet appropriately in the current client.
How to use it during real play
Succubus can deal more damage, which makes it appealing to an Affliction drain-tanking setup. In that approach the Warlock expects to absorb some hits while Drain Life helps recover health. The swap only improves overall efficiency if the time saved on fights outweighs extra healing, deaths or downtime.
Mistakes and changing beta behavior
Your control environment decides the answer. In a dense camp of enemies, a stronger threat buffer may prevent accidental multi-pulls. In a wide outdoor space, a faster offensive pet can make a steady route faster. Against elite targets, test survival carefully instead of applying a leveling recommendation without adjustment.
Practical setup and test plan
These pets are accessed through class quests rather than automatically available at every level. The Forever Warlock guide documents Voidwalker around level 10 and the Succubus/Incubus quest choices around level 20. If a quest requires difficult travel or another dungeon, verify the current objective first.
At-a-glance decisions
| Point of decision | What matters |
|---|---|
| Hard-hitting target | Voidwalker safety |
| Weak isolated target | compare Succubus damage |
| Crowded zone | threat control |
| Drain-tanking | health recovery |
Repeatable beta testing checklist
- Check your current level, relevant talent ranks and ability tooltips.
- Test your normal gameplay against comparable opponents, not one cherry-picked critical hit.
- Record travel, mana, health or combat-resource recovery alongside encounter duration.
- Revisit the setup after an official tuning patch and update the build date.
Use the Talent Calculator for available points, the Community Builds section for sharing your setup, and LFG if your experiment requires a party.
FAQ
Do Succubus and Incubus have identical acquisition chains?
The beta guide describes related but separate summon quest chains; follow your trainer.
Is the higher-damage pet always the fastest?
No, time lost recovering from extra damage may outweigh its benefit.
