Before the flag is taken, establish where the carrier will wait when both teams possess the enemy flag, and who is responsible for returning your own.
Step-by-step approach
The escort's job is to move with the carrier, interrupt pursuit and prevent avoidable crowd-control chains. Do not all move into the enemy base when a small retrieval team can intercept the opposing carrier. The defending group should call the enemy flag's last confirmed position, not insist it is inside a particular tunnel after an outdated report.
How to measure success and avoid bad information
Record whether losing games were decided by an unprotected carrier, failure to return your own flag or poor coordination. Honor rewards and Marks of Honor are useful, but avoid quoting old Classic-era honor-per-hour expectations without running Forever matches under the current rules.
