A practical pre-launch setup checklist using Blizzard's official starter instructions. This guide uses Blizzard's published information available as of October 30, 2026. Where a launch-client detail has not been independently checked, we say so.
What Blizzard has confirmed
The official starter guide directs players to access World of Warcraft through Battle.net, choose World of Warcraft: Forever as the game version and ensure the relevant subscription or Game Time is active.
Why this matters for your character
Before launch, check that your Battle.net account is accessible, the desktop app is updated and the correct game version is installed. If returning after a long absence, also verify authentication and account recovery methods.
What to do before or during launch
After selecting a ruleset, choose the faction and class you will actually play with friends. Use the site's talent calculator for planning, but verify final tooltips in the live client.
What is still uncertain?
Account edition benefits and optional cosmetic packs are separate from the base subscription access described by Blizzard.
Useful tools and further reading
Plan your skills with the Talent Calculator, compare shared setups in Community Builds and coordinate with real players through the LFG directory.
