What changed in the October 15 beta build?
Blizzard's latest Forever beta notes are more than a routine bugfix pass. The update adjusts several racial abilities, changes Mage talent progression, reworks selected raid-wide utility effects and clarifies the difference between access to the City of Dalaran instance and the surrounding city. These are beta rules, not promises of identical launch balance.
Class and talent changes worth checking
| Class | Confirmed beta change | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mage | Frost Blast becomes available at level 24; Arcane Blast is redesigned; Missile Barrage moves earlier | Existing leveling talent paths may now use different breakpoints |
| Hunter | Pet crit inheritance is corrected; multiple pet-family abilities are tuned | Pet performance comparisons made before this build may be stale |
| Druid | Furor and Faerie Fire behavior updated; raid-wide critical-strike auras clarified | Form-switching and group utility deserve a new test |
| Paladin | Holy threat, Consecration scaling and Reckoning adjusted | Tanking and threat advice must specify the build |
| Shaman | Grace of Air can coexist with Windfury and Flametongue; several totems become raid-wide | Recheck group buffs and totem assignments |
| Priest | Discipline and Shadow talent locations/effects changed | Do not copy talent screenshots from older beta builds |
Racial adjustments
Human Sword Specialization was replaced by Ruthless (+2% critical strike chance), Orc Axe Specialization by Savage (+1% critical strike chance), and the Skyborne Wind Blessed haste bonus increased to 3% from 1%. Gnome Eureka! now acts as an eight-second buff; several Tauren, Undead and Dwarf bonuses also changed. These changes can influence race choice, but they do not establish a final race tier list. Compare the current available combinations with the site's Racials and Talents tools before planning a new character.
Dungeon versus city access
The patch explicitly states that Horde characters will be attacked on sight in open-world Dalaran. The Horde Sewer Key quest chain no longer grants unrestricted entry to that city. City of Dalaran dungeon access is not affected. If a guide claims Horde can safely explore the open city after the quest, treat it as obsolete.
PvP and professions
The notes remove reduced critical-strike efficacy in PvP and fix Shipwreck Cove capture-point positioning. Separately, vendor values for certain Enchanting crafts changed; Armor Kits granting Attack Power no longer grant twice their intended Ranged Attack Power. Neither change proves a final PvP meta or launch gold strategy.
What to do now
Recheck talent allocations at your *current* character level, save a baseline of your damage and mana usage, compare identical tests after the patch, and verify your next dungeon's entry path. Use Builds for shared setups and LFG to assemble a consistent group.
FAQ
Is this the final release balance? No. These are beta development notes.
Does Horde lose the City of Dalaran dungeon? No. Blizzard explicitly distinguishes the dungeon from the surrounding open-world city.
Is dungeon XP raised again on October 15? The October 15 notes do not establish a second general dungeon XP increase. The approximately 20% creature-kill change was announced October 8.
