Mana management is one of the biggest differences between a smooth level-30 dungeon group and a series of unnecessary recovery stops. Forever adds talents and support options, but efficient healing still starts by matching the spell to actual incoming damage.
Beta context: Tested guidance applies to WoW Forever around the level-30 beta cap and the October 16 development state. Review the in-game tooltip after every beta update; do not treat it as a final level-60 ranking.
Measure the pull, not the healing meter
A healer can top a healing meter by spending mana that did not prevent a death. Record the tank's damage pattern, the number of simultaneous injured players and the time required to drink afterward. Compare total run duration and group survival; avoid using raw healing numbers as the only sign of a strong setup.
When to use a group spell
Prayer of Healing becomes available to Priests at level 30 and is expensive; do not cast it for a few missing points of health on two players. Restoration Shamans may save mana by using the appropriate Healing Wave and delaying offensive Fire Nova when the next pull is dangerous. Each class has different talent tradeoffs, so test spell selection on your actual character rather than assuming all healers share an identical rotation.
Preparation before the first pull
Carry water, confirm your healing role and tell the tank when you need recovery. Ask DPS players to avoid unnecessary damage from avoidable mechanics. Make sure people understand how to handle dangerous trash so you do not have to heal every participant simultaneously. If your group uses Camping buffs, check current exclusivity rules before announcing an assumed stack of bonuses.
A five-pull exercise
Run five typical trash pulls with the same tank. For each, write down the largest incoming hit, healing spells used, whether anyone needed an emergency cooldown, and recovery seconds. On the next five, change one behavior—for instance, use fewer expensive emergency spells when damage is predictable. Only compare results when party composition and enemy levels are reasonably similar.
Quick comparison
| Observed issue | Likely experiment | Measure |
|---|---|---|
| Drink after each easy pack | Choose more efficient healing ranks | Rest seconds per pack |
| Tank dies during cast | Earlier preparation and faster emergency response | Failed pulls |
| Party-wide damage | Use actual available group healing | Total mana and survival |
Practical checklist
- Check the current build and the exact level of your character.
- Use the Talent Calculator to compare available points and prerequisites.
- Test one change at a time and record a repeatable outcome.
- Review the latest Forever news before relying on a pre-patch guide.
- If grouping is relevant, agree on roles and test with the same party composition.
Frequently asked questions
Is the most powerful heal always the right spell?
No. Wasted healing and repeated drinks slow the full run.
Should healers avoid all damage spells?
Not necessarily; safe damage helps when enough mana remains for the next threat.
